About the event
Impact Boards EM and NED Career Services are co-hosting a Fall Webinar Series with Mike Clancy, founder of NED Career Services, beginning in September 2024.
The first webinar in the Fall Webinar Series, Series 1: "Getting Ready", will take place on 12 September 2024 from 15:00 - 16:00 UK time. This will be followed by two further webinars Series 2: "Your Elevator Pitch" and Series 3: "CV and Networking" in October and November respectively.
What are the Fall Webinar Series?
The Fall Webinar Series is a series of 3 webinars, 60 mins each, geared towards our Affiliate members i.e. aspiring Board Directors who are looking to start their non-executive career with a board appointment in parallel with their executive role or embarking on a Portfolio Career focused on non-executive appointments.
When starting your corporate non-executive career, aspiring Board Directors will be repeatedly told two things. Firstly, the hardest part is to secure your first role and secondly, to secure that first role networking will be essential. Our Fall Webinar Series is designed to help our Affiliate Members become networking ready. The series will cover the key topics and issues you will need to think through to maximise the chances of your future networking being successful.

What will be covered in Series 1 “Getting Ready”?
This session will cover Motives, Preparation and Career Review.
Motives
No one is told to be a non-executive director. It is a career choice you have made
- People will want to know why you want to do it – you will be asked this question.
- How effective is your answer?
- We will explore push and pull factors around this fundamental point.
Preparation
Without previous non-executive experience, you will be promoting your NED potential. Preparation will enhance your potential and you will have to be pro-active.
- Do you genuinely understand the role?
- Have you mastered the “theory”?
- What are your options to educate yourself and become informed?
Career Review
This is the start of your positioning as a NED. Looking backwards to identify the value you bring from your skills and experiences as an executive. This will largely determine your potential contribution as a NED.
- We introduce you to a four-part framework to help review your career to date.
- We provide an exercise to help you conduct a skills and experiences audit.
