About the event

Impact Boards EM and NED Career Services are co-hosting a Fall Webinar Series with Mike Clancy, founder of NED Career Services.

Following the first two webinars in the Fall Webinar Series, Series 1: "Getting Ready" and Series 2: "Your Elevator Pitch" we are ready to move to the final webinar, Series 3: "CV and Networking" on 6 November 2024 from 15:00 - 16:00 UK time.

What are the Fall Webinar Series?

The Fall Webinar Series is a series of 3 webinars, 60 mins each, geared towards our Affiliate members i.e. aspiring Board Directors who are looking to start their non-executive career with a board appointment in parallel with their executive role or embarking on a Portfolio Career focused on non-executive appointments.

When starting your corporate non-executive career, aspiring Board Directors will be repeatedly told two things. Firstly, the hardest part is to secure your first role and secondly, to secure that first role networking will be essential. Our Fall Webinar Series is designed to help our Affiliate Members become networking ready. The series will cover the key topics and issues you will need to think through to maximise the chances of your future networking being successful.

Series 1: "Getting Ready"

4 September 2024 at 15:00 UK time

Series 2: "Your Elevator Pitch"

2 October 2024 at 15:00 UK time

Series 3: "CV and Networking"

6 November 2024 at 15:00 UK time.

Participants can choose to purchase the series as a package or on a standalone basis.

What will be covered in Series 3: "CV and Networking"?

Numerous things in the NED marketplace are out of your control. However, the CV you use in the marketplace is 100% in your control and you will need one.

The first part of this session is focused on CV advice for aspiring NEDs

To help you create a great document we will discuss the following

  • What purpose does the CV serve?
  • A networking CV versus a job application CV
  • What to include in detail / what to summarise
  • Reverse chronological CV or skills based?
  • Does it have to be 2 pages?
  • Common pitfalls in CV writing

Networking

With your CV being the final piece of the preparation jigsaw you are ready to network.

In the second part of this session, we will discuss how to create a networking plan and action it.

  • You will have to commit time, effort and a budget
  • Who should you network with and why?
  • The importance of your own contacts
  • Maximising your indirect networking, i.e. the multiplier on your own direct efforts
  • Expectations, reciprocity, timelines and networking reviews
