ABOUT THE DCRO INSTITUTE
The DCRO Institute is a nonprofit collaborative educational initiative among board members and C-suite executives that brings essential risk governance expertise to peers in the boardroom and C-suite Directors and Chief Risk Officers group.
DCRO was formed in 2008 as a collaborative effort to focus on the top-level governance of risk in practice, comprising of leading board members, chief risk officers, and other C-level officers whose jobs included a fiduciary responsibility for governance and risk management. This collaboration was crystallised by the perspectives and experience of more than 2,000 members from large and mid-size for-profit and nonprofit organisations, coming from over 120 countries. That global, practical, collaborative effort continues with the work of the DCRO Institute and via the graduates of their programs.
The DCRO Institute credential holders serve on boards in more than 60 countries on six continents, and it is the world's leading provider of risk governance credentials and training.

MEET THE TEAM
David Koening
President and CEO
David has focused his career in assisting entities to achieve their goals through better risk-taking and risk governance. As a hands on practitioner in risk management, he built and oversaw complex entity wide and portfolio specific risk management programs. As a thought leader and author, David set out in the early 2000's to establish and implement global best practices for risk governance at Board and Executive levels.
David served as a CEO and held senior executive positions in three different US institutions, including one of the largest US banks. He has served in numerous Boards and advised Boards and executives across the US and internationally.
He was one of the original founders of the Professional Risk Managers International Association (PRMIA), leading that entity until 2007.
David is the President and CEO of the DCRO Institute, founded in 2008, to focus on the top level governance of risk in practice. Today the DCRO has brought together 2,000 board members, chief risk officers, and other C-level officers whose jobs include a fiduciary responsibility for governance and risk management across 120 countries.
David is the award-winning author of three books:
Governance Reimagined: Organizational Design, Risk, and Value Creation, The Board Member's Guide to Risk, and Life at the Nexus Understanding ourselves and the value of interconnectedness.
